EBSI 2009 HOSTS THIS STAR DEBUT
December 2009 will hold the
2nd Emirates Boat Show
International [EBSI], and Al
Marakeb Boat
Manufacturing Co LLC- 5G
Marine Systems LLC will be presenting its
star guest: the Interceptor.
A 7m, unmanned surface vessel
(USV) will be making its debut in the
Middle East on December 8th in Abu
Dhabi, demonstrating the latest technologies
in the marine robotics field.
Earlier this year, Al Marakeb Boat
Manufacturing Co LLC, a young and fast
growing local custom boat builder, teamed
up with commercial and military marine
robotics designer and builder, 5G Marine
Systems, and HALO maritime defense system,
a security systems specialists. This
dynamic trio combined generations of
expertise in making high quality boats and
ground breaking robot technology put
together to develop integrated security
systems to protect high value governmental and private assets.
As described by Mr Robert
Murphy, CEO of 5G Marine “USVs provide a
very efficient method of patrolling coastal
and offshore waters,” he told the IDEX
Show Daily. “Providing effective patrolling
24/7 using a manned operation is expensive
in terms of the vessels themselves,
crews, infrastructure, maintenance and
fuel. An unmanned solution using USVs
offers a more effective solution for considerably
less capital and running costs.”
The Interceptor is an Unmanned
Surface Vessel that can be operated
remotely by trained experts, or as an
autonomous, preprogrammed robot, and
keeps humans out of harm’s way. It can
collect and relay information back to a
main control station, whether it’s within a
visual range, or via satellite. Needless to
say the applications are numerous, and Al
Marakeb Boat Manufacturing, along with
5G Marine and HALO defense, have
devised systems which exploit this stateof-
the-art technology to its utmost potential,
in addition to providing operators for
data collection and training programs to
compliment the systems.

Navies, ports, fuelling stations, oil
